Artist Statement - Panteleimon Kourtidis Iconographer
Since graduating from Athonias Academy of the Mount Athos in 1995, I
have been making Orthodox Icons of Byzantine style as a professional.
Being true to the original Byzantine tradition in iconography, I am
guided by Emanuel Panselinos (13th century) as well as Theophanis from
Crete(16th century).
I have dedicated a large part of my life to the
study of the spirituality, the nature and the of Byzantine iconography
due to the religious influence I have from Mount Athos.
The art of the icon is able to show the divine side of a human and
deals with the economy of man's salvation.
The religious angle of this unique form of art makes me base upon the Holy Scriptures and Orthodox
tradition with aim to give a spiritual as well as an artistic value to
my work (portable icons and fresco-painting on the wall).
